Mukluk's Page

"I am my dogs favorite chew toy."

They say every dog has his day.   Well every Bear needs a good dog.
I first saw Mukluk as a pup, maybe a few months old-four at the most.
She was living out in the backyard of a friend's moms'.
She was very sweet.   I thought, even then-
'I'm going to have that dog one day...'

I put her out of my mind-silly to even consider since the people
had paid a nice sum for her being a purebred Boxer.

One day my friend tells me that the folks are having problems with the dog.   She's too wild and fiesty-the father had a stroke and the mom had her own problems and taking care of a dog wasn't the highest
priority so he was going to bring the dog home
until his sister could take the pup.

Cool.

So he and his GF bring the dog home with them.   It's name was 'Boots'.
The poor dog had no socialization-very wild, lots of running and jumping and excitable.   Chewing up items and chasing the
cat were her favorite past times.
She also tended to crap and pee on the floor-put her
outside for three hours and
she'd wait till she came in and let 'er rip.

This, of course, got real old-real fast.

My friends noticed she listened to me for the most part.
They'd try to train
her and she'd stand her ground and bark.
Tried that with me and I'd chase
her till she was cornered then get all over her.

After a month the sister said she'd take the pup.   That was good for my
friends and their cat as the cat was having a breakdown-
he couldn't hide anywhere and the dog was in 'HIS' room.

They took Boots to the sister about 3p.m. on a Friday.
By six she was calling wanting them to take the dog back.

"Find something to do with it or it goes to the POUND!"

My friends were sort of crossed on that-they didn't want
the dog at the house but didn't want something bad
happening to her either.   I volunteered to take her.

"Are you sure you can handle her?" They asked.

"Ummm Hmmm."

She was renamed 'Mukluk" a Native name for a boot, because
I thought "Boots" was ridiculous. She also got treated
and cured of Mange-she was a complete mess when I finally got her. Training started immediately-she went on a leash and was walked to
and from the backyard until she learned the word 'Out'.
She wet in the house exactly five times-three in my room because I
wasn't paying attention and twice in the living room [Her old pee spot].

She crapped in the room once but she was sick-very sensitive tummy.

[[Should have named her 'Farts-A-Lot']]

Chewed up a few things I'd rather she not but she's adjusted well, usually asleep on the bed behind me as I work.

She did chew up two bottles of my transplant meds on a Friday afternoon
before a holiday weekend [New Years 2006] and that was scary for me
and her-she puked a lot that weekend and the meds are
expensive and not available at Walgreens.

Anyway, she's recovered.   Loves to play and ride in the Jeep
thinks she is cute and just in general is a hell of a friend.
